Phew!!! That was a close one. (1/7/21)

The 76ers improve to 7–1 on the season after last night’s victory over the Washington Wizards. The Sixers had control for much of the game until the 4th period when the Wizards were up by three for a moment of time. Here are my takeways from last night’s game.

Bradley Beal was unstoppable.

Got to give credit where credit is due. Beal as of right now is a playing like an MVP. Right now he is the best scorer in the NBA, and he proved that last night when he dropped a career high 60 points. The Sixers couldn’t contain him, and it seemed like whenever he had the ball in his hands he was going to get buckets, which ultimately did happen. It’s just to bad the Wizards lost last night and are currently 2–6 on the young season.

Joel Embiid for MVP?

The Sixers have a lot of good players, but Embiid is by far their best player. When he is on the floor the Sixers are absolutely lethal, but when he is on the bench they struggle. After a shaky start, Embiid was finally able to put it together as he scored a season high 38 points. Just like any other MVP he dominated when it mattered the most in the 4th period as he hit a clutch three during the final minutes of the game. Let’s just hope he can stay healthy throughout the season.

Turnovers almost cost them the game.

It looked like it was going to be another dominating performance from this Sixers squad, but then towards the end of the game they started getting lazy with the ball, and that led to the Wizards capitalizing off of those turnovers and making a comeback. When the Sixers play a contender they can’t afford to turnover the ball like they did last night, or else they’ll lose.

Three point shooting remains hot.

The Sixers shot a scorching hot 62.1% from deep. Seth Curry who continues to shoot it well from beyond the arc shot 85.7% from deep last night, WOW. Danny Green is really starting to heat up, as last night he had a season high 15 points while shooting a 62.5% from deep. Another player who continues to put up good numbers from three point range is Tobias Harris. Last night he shot 42.9%. Embiid joined in on the three point shooting fun to, as he shot 75%.
