Joel Embiid is the MVP of the league (1/28/21)

Joel is undoubtedly the MVP of the league right now. I don’t want to hear that Nikola Jokic is better than Embiid because he’s not. As of right now Embiid is the best basketball player on this earth and here’s why.

One word to describe Joel Embiid is unstoppable. Every team in the league has an extremely difficult time game planning against this guy because he’s the toughest player in the league to guard in the paint. Even when being double teamed, he’s able to escape it by either dishing the ball to one of his teammates or drawing a foul.

He’s currently averaging the 4th most points per game, only trailing Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, and Damian Lillard. Outside of scoring, Embiid is 8th in the league when it comes to grabbing rebounds. Nobody in the NBA has gotten to the free throw line as much as he has.

Career Year

Before the season, people were predicting that Embiid would have a career year and MVP type of season because Daryl Morey acquired players that can space out the floor for him to operate in the paint, and man are those predictions really coming to fruition. Joel is averaging a career high in points, three point percentage, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals, and etc. This is the first of many prime seasons for Embiid.

Team doesn’t stand a chance without him

While this Sixers team is dominant with Embiid on the court, without him has been a completely different story. When Embiid is playing the Sixers are 13–2, and when he isn’t playing they are winless at 0–4. On Monday, the team lost to a lowly Pistons squad without Derrick Rose by 15 points because Joel was absent with back tightness. When Embiid is absent, the team doesn’t get to the free throw line as much, doesn’t score as many points, and the defense just isn’t there. That just shows how vital he is to this team when it comes to scoring the basketball, getting to the foul line, and playing defense.
