Eagles realistic chance at making the playoffs? (11/6/21)

With a losing record of 3–5, it looks as though the Eagles have no shot at making the playoffs. Well, that’s where you are wrong.

After a dominating victory on Halloween Sunday against the winless Lions, the team’s playoff window is still wide open.

The Eagles have the third easiest schedule out of all 32 teams in the NFL. Those remaining opponents consist of teams with a dreadful 2–6 record, in the Jets, Giants, and the Washington Football Team.

This week, the Eagles will take on a Chargers team who have after starting with a 4–1 record, have been on the downswing, as they have lost two straight games. Add in the fact that it won’t be easy for them to have to travel cross country just to play one game, and then have to fly back out to Los Angeles to kickstart a two-game homestand.

The following week, they square off against the Broncos in the Mile High City. Just like the Chargers, the Broncos have been on the downswing. After starting with a 3–0 record, they have lost four out of their last five games and now own a 4–4 record.

While the Broncos do have multiple playmakers on the offensive side of the ball in Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Noah Fant, and running back Melvin Gordan, they have a quarterback in Teddy Bridgewater who doesn’t exactly pose a major threat to NFL defenses.

The Saints are one of the NFC’s premier teams and have been for quite some time. They have arguably the league’s best defense, but the issue is that their starting quarterback Jamesis Winston is out for the year with a Torn MCL and ACL.

Backup Trevor Siemian will likely be the starter vs the Eagles, as he has been a journeyman quarterback throughout his career playing for five different teams in only a six-year span.

While he does own a career record of 13–12 as a starter, that’s mostly because he played on a Broncos squad that featured a ferocious defense led by future Hall of Famer Von Miller.

In the last game of the season, the Eagles will square off against the arch-rival Cowboys who will most likely be resting all of their starters because they will already have won the division crown.

The other teams that the Eagles are fighting against for the few reaming playoff spots are the Panthers, Vikings, 49ers, Falcons, and Seahawks. All of those teams have very tough remaining schedules.

While the Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni era has gotten off to a very rocky start, they have the chance to redeem themselves by taking advantage of the soft schedule that they have coming up.
